FES and back update – 24 April 2018
So a week after the back treatment, how am I? Well, I did very little on the 2 days after the op and on Saturday was feeling pretty good – if a little sore. Amazingly supportive husband took me for a brief outing on Saturday morning which ended up in me being in quite a lot of pain from being on my feet too much (about 15 minutes!) and I had to go to bed for the rest of the afternoon. The rest of the weekend was spent in a fog of tiredness – relieved only by some amazing sushi on Saturday night.
Everything seems to be settling down in terms of the ongoing general discomfort I was suffering from, but the pain from the wounds and where the nerves were burned is hard to explain. Almost like intense burning and itching. Like really severe sunburn, but inside. It makes it hard to sleep. I decided to take the full 7 days off work as advised by the hospital and I am glad that I did now.
Good news on the FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) – I’ve got an appointment with a neuro physio on 9 May – so my GP must have come up trumps with sorting the funding. High five, Dr V!
And what about how I am feeling after FMT? Well it was never going to be a quick fix, if there was going to be any fixing at all, but one thing I certainly did not expect to be an outcome was constipation! A whole bloody week I went without a poo! And only an obscene amount of OxyKlenz and prunes ultimately fixed that and then I had about 10 poos in 48 hours….Anyway, still waiting to see if everything settles down and I can return to normal – whatever that is. Just regular, once a day would be nice. I am vegan for goodness sake (another lifestyle change that I must go into at some point) I eat so much veg there is absolutely NO reason for things not to be working.
Maybe I have just put my body through too much in too short a space of time… I will give it a short break and give things a chance to settle… I have cancelled my appointment with TJ Wang the acupuncturist this week – I don’t think I can sit in the car for that long with my back this sore.
Oxygen therapy tonight – not my favourite thing but it well help with the healing process. Plus I have discovered 6 seasons of ‘The Good Wife’ on Amazon Prime which I am quite enjoying so some time in the tank will help me get through some episodes – there are 20+ episodes per season…
In true ‘amazingly supportive’ style, amazingly supportive husband is coming with – he starts his training tonight to become a volunteer operator for the oxygen sessions. Our way (or his..) of trying to give something back, I suppose.
