Needles, needles everywhere – 30 August 2018

Quite literally! Saw Ron the acupuncturist again yesterday.

I have decided to try and make my updates more frequent and shorter. We will see how that goes….

So, about the acupuncture….I managed to drive the entire way (approx 1 hr) without actually thinking about the fact that needles were going to be stuck into me which is amazing. Normally I would be obsessing massively about that. Progress! As I was less apprehensive and less emotionally charged generally, I was able to have a better discussion about the treatment that was taking place.

Initially, he spent time taking my pulse and feeling my psoas muscle which is noticeably ‘squashier’ on the left hand side. I could even feel the difference.

Ron still has concerns over the interruption to the flow of energy through my meridians possibly caused by the incision made during keyhole surgery through my tummy button 2 years ago. He focused on this by inserting no less than 10 needles around it. I did not feel any discomfort from the insertion of the needles but odd referred sensations elsewhere – namely tingling in my hands and feet. These needles stayed in place for a while. In the meantime, he then did several ‘in, out’ points around my ribs. These sent the strangest sensations washing over my shoulders and down my back which are hard to explain but definitely strange. After removing the tummy button needles, he finished off with more stabbings near my thumb joint and rather unpleasantly, just by my nostrils. There ensued lots more odd sensations in my feet and shoulders and then I was free to go.

The psoas muscles were much more consistent in terms of their ‘squashiness’ and my pulse was apparently stronger. A good result I felt, although Ron advised that any benefits would continue to become apparent in the next 2-3 days as the effects of the energy release took place. True to his word, I am continuing to get odd sensations periodically and I am feeling pretty good today. Excellent work, Ron. It will be interesting to see what the next couple of days has in store. It is useful that I don’t have anything else planned treatment-wise this week so I can monitor the effects in isolation.

As Ron is now away for a month, I have another appointment in early October for further and hopefully more regular treatment.

Apparently having acupuncture to fix something or treat ailments is a bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted and that the Chinese use it as a preventative measure to stay healthy. Typically 4/5 treatments per year is advisable.  I am going to make an appointment for Amazingly Supportive Husband. He is not keen but as I explained to him, I need him in tip-top condition to look after me!

Starting to get that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach about going back to work 🙁
